Dylan O’Brien Talks Spider-Man Rumours

After finding himself linked to the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ movie, Dylan O’Brien reveals there’s no truth to those rumours…

It’s no secret that Marvel and Sony will be searching for an all-new Spider-Man after their recent deal brought a brand-new ‘Spider-Man’ movie into the works. But who will land the coveted role?

Fan favourite, Dylan O’Brien explains that he hasn’t been approached… yet.

During an interview with BuzzFeed, the 23-year-old star of ‘The Maze Runner’ revealed that he hasn’t been contacted about the role of Spider-Man.

“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it,” he revealed. “I’ve only heard from, like, [rumours] online.”

O’Brien had originally been pegged as one of the leading contenders for Spider-Man’s latest outing – a joint venture by Marvel and Sony. But the young actor has no idea how the rumour started.

“It feels so weird to say,” he laughed. “It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?!”

Of course, it’s easy to see why fans would want to see him in the role. After all, his impressive appearance in ‘The Maze Runner’, has shown that he certainly looks the part in a more acrobatic role. And that makes him a prime candidate for Marvel’s webslinger.

But unfortunately, it looks as though he hasn’t even been approached.

“It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation,” he said. “You can tell them that it’s not true.”

Obviously, the young actor would jump at the chance to suit up as Spider-Man, and reveals that while the rumours aren’t true, he’s flattered to be linked to the role. And it seems he’s certainly interested in the role.

“It’s nothing but flattering,” he said. “It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint.”

“I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is f**king fantastic.”

Will O’Brien at least get the chance to audition for the role? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I can’t help thinking he’d make a great Peter Parker.

The all-new ‘Spider-Man’ movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
