Ten years after the release of Scott Pilgrim vs The World, it’s clear to see that director Edgar Wright and his casting team of Allison Jones, Robin D. Cook, and Jennifer Euston had an incredible eye for up and coming actors.

Since then, the film’s ensemble of Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Michael Cera have all gone on to star in a number of incredible films and television shows.

But quite a few other actors who Wright and Jones decided not to cast in the comic-book adaptation have gone on to achieve even greater things.

Take for example Robert Pattinson, who is currently in production as Bruce Wayne/the Caped Crusader on The Batman, but wasn’t deemed quite right for the role of Lucas Lee, one of Ramona (Winstead)’s ex boyfriends who Scott (Cera) must defeat.

Wright recently recalled Pattinson’s audition to Vanity Fair, which took place just before the release of Twilight, the film that propelled the actor to fame and celebrity.

“I remember it vividly. He did a much more intense read of it as well. Obviously, Robert is an incredible actor and someone who I’d love to work with now. But it was a very different take from what Chris [Evans] did.”

Jones says that they even had a little discussion with Pattinson about the impending release of Twilight, which he didn’t seem too enthused about.

“I remember we were asking him about Twilight, and he was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know. I just saw it. It’s okay, I guess. I don’t know,” although she did add, “He was really good at an American accent.”

Ultimately, though, Wright and Jones decided to pick Chris Evans over Pattinson for the role, with the casting director explaining, “I can always tell who doesn’t fit in the world of the movie. It’s just instinctively, and it goes unsaid that they fit or they don’t fit.”
