James Cameron has revealed that Terminator 2: Judgement Day star Edward Furlong will be back for Terminator: Dark Fate.

The director – who is producing Dark Fate – appeared via a satellite link from the set of the Avatar sequels in New Zealand at Comic Con in San Diego yesterday to break the news.

Cameron joined Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in Hall H in a special panel chat about the new movie when he dropped the surprise news.

Furlong played the young John Connor in the 1991 hit, future leader of the human resistance against the AI apocalypse.

However, after making it as a teen star his career took something of a detour.

He first went into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in 2000, admitting to being addicted to heroin and cocaine.

Furlong was also arrested on multiple occasions from 2009 to 2013 for repeated instances of domestic violence, serving time in jail.

He continued to work as an actor, however, in low budget and TV movies, though sporadically in recent years, his last movie being 2017's The Reunion.

Prior to that, he starred in 2016’s A Winter Rose with Billy Zane, Taryn Manning and George Lazenby.

Also starring Hamilton, Schwarzenegger, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna, Terminator: Dark Fate, directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller, lands on October 23 in the UK.
