'The Neon Demon,' the next film from 'Bronson,' 'Drive' and 'Only God Forgives' director Nicolas Winding Refn, may be set to star Elle Fanning in the lead.

The Wrap reports that the young American actress, recently seen in ‘Maleficent,’ is in negotiations to appear in the film, which Refn has co-written with Mary Laws.

Shrouded in mystery as Refn’s films tend to be, all we’ve been told is that Fanning would appear as “an aspiring model who is caught in a world of beauty and demise.”

No, we’re not sure what that means either, but if you’ve seen any of Refn’s films, with their striking but disorientating blend of arthouse restraint and savage violence, you’ll be aware that the Danish filmmaker tends not to spell things out in black and white.

Of his prospective star, Refn says, “Elle Fanning is a super cool wonder woman and I look forward to going on a terrifying trip with her into ‘The Neon Demon,’”

Refn is also said to be still at work on at TV adaptation of comic book series and 1968 sci-fi movie ‘Barbarella,’ whilst Fanning will next be seen in indie drama ‘Trumbo.’

'The Neon Demon' is expected to hit screens in 2016.
