Emily Blunt On Whether She'd Play Captain Marvel

Emily Blunt has been talking about whether she’d play Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios’ Phase Three movie ‘Captain Marvel’.

Blunt has been a popular choice to play the character and given how close she was to playing Black Widow (she was contractually obliged to make ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ with Jack Black instead – oof) it has been assumed that she’s a frontrunner.

Speaking to Collider ahead of the release of Disney musical ‘Into the Woods’, Blunt said: “It’s funny ‘cause I’m hearing this ‘Captain Marvel’ thing from a lot of people. I have no official offer, whatsoever. No one’s called.

“I don’t know where the hell it’s come from, in all honesty,” she added. “For me, I just think that the part has gotta be awesome. I just want to play great parts, and it’s sometimes hard to find within those big superhero movies. The female parts are not usually great, but recently, they’ve been better

“It has to be the right thing.”

A standard actorly response then, but there’s no denial so for fans of Blunt and the prospect of her playing Danvers there’s still reason to be hopeful.

The British actresses’ badass turn in Tom Cruise movie ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ earlier this year really raised her profile as an action heroine. In that movie just managed to overshadow Cruise in his best role in years and was every bit the action hero he was.

‘Captain Marvel’ will be released on 6 July 2018, between ‘Avengers: Infinity War- Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’ in 2019. The character may well appear before her first solo movie.
