Emma Watson Terrified of Singing In Beauty and the Beast Remake

Harry Potter star Emma Watson has revealed she’s pretty scared of making her musical debut, telling Total Film she finds whole prospect of singing in Disney’s forthcoming ‘Beauty and the Beast’ remake “terrifying”.

"I sing, so that’s really unexpected,” reveals Watson. “I’ve never had to do that for a film role before, and I think people will be interested to see me do something very different like that.

“It gives me a different challenge, really. That’s terrifying in and of itself!”

The 24-year-old star previously revealed that she suffered “stage fright” after leaving the ‘Harry Potter’ world behind, and was encouraged to quit acting by a uni tutor, but she appears to have overcome that to forge a successful movie career.

‘Downton Abbey’s’ Dan Stevens will play Prince Adam/Beast, and ‘The Hobbit’s’ Luke Evans will play Gaston in the lavish reimagining of the 1991 animation which is aiming for a 2016 release.

The animated film was a huge hit for Disney in the 90s and it was translated into a blockbuster musical which ran on Broadway from 1994 to 2007. The new film is said to be more of an adaptation of the stage musical than the animated source.

Hitfix revealed last year, that Bill Condon’s new version of the French fairytale will include “most, if not all, of the Menken/Rice songs from the Broadway musical” and will be a “straight-forward, live action, large-budget movie musical.”

Watson confirmed her involvement on her Facebook page earlier this year telling her fans: “I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx”
