Evangeline Lilly Held Off Ant-Man After Edgar Wright Exit

After the high-profile exit of director Edgar Wright, it looks as though ‘Ant-Man’ star Evangeline Lilly wasn’t sure about signing her contract.

In an interview with Innerspace, the 30-year-old ‘Lord of the Rings’ actress revealed that she held off from signing her ‘Ant-Man’ contract after Edgar Wright left the project.

“I was [bummed out] when Edgar and Marvel decided to part ways,” she said. “I was nervous, and I kind of held off from signing my contract because I actually wanted to wait and see what would happen.”

Of course, the job eventually went to ‘Bring It On’ director Peyton Reed… and while many Marvel fans bemoan the departure of Edgar Wright, it looks as though Reed convinced Lilly to sign up to the movie.

“I met Peyton [Reed] and we spoke, and I was convinced that I was going to do the project,” she said. “He has such impeccable taste, he’s so collaborative, so much fun, and so deep into the comic book world. [He] always has been [in that world], all his life, and really knows the genre. I just have no doubt the film is going to be incredible. I think it’s going to be one of Marvel’s best.”

Obviously, Lilly is bound to sing the praises of her latest movie… and as she’s signed up to appear as Hope Van Dyne in the upcoming ‘Ant-Man’ film, perhaps it’s only natural that she thinks it’ll be Marvel’s best film yet.

But while I personally loath to see Edgar Wright leave the film, I’m still hopeful that Paul Rudd will really shine in the role. And since it’s still based on much of Wright’s work, maybe there’s a glimmer of hope for the troubled Marvel movie.

Of course, for now we’ll have to wait and see. But it looks as though Evangeline Lilly is excited about the project… and that’s good enough for me.

‘Ant-Man’ heads to cinemas across the UK on 17 July 2015.
