Fast and Furious 7 Will Soon Be Third Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time

It’s been circulating in cinemas for two months and already ‘Fast and Furious 7′ is on its way to becoming the third highest-grosser of all-time.

Since its release at the beginning of April, the seventh instalment in the explosive action movie series soared to $1 billion in the fastest time ever, ovetaking the impressive feat ‘James Cameron’s 2009 film ‘Avatar’ set.

Incredibly, it took James Wan’s film movie took just 17 days to pass the $1 billion mark and is the quickest ever film to do so.

However, in its second month of release, ‘Fast and Furious 7′ is already on just over $1.5 billion and sits ahead of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2′ in fourth in the highest-grossing film list.

Significantly though, ‘Fast and Furious 7′ is close to overtaking ‘Avengers Assemble’, which has been comfortable in third spot since its 2012 release. Currently Wan’s Vin Diesel-starring extravaganza is just $160,000 behind, looking likely that it’ll move up a place before its cinema run ends.

But that’s probably as high as it’ll get, because there’s a big gap between second and third, with ‘Titanic’ at $2.2 billion.

It’s no surprise to see it reach such commercial highs, either. Not only are the previous ‘Fast and Furious’ films known for generating hundreds of millions – ‘Fast and Furious 6′ did almost $800 million in 2013 – but this was expected to have a greater significance due to the untimely death of Paul Walker.

With a budget of $190 million, the film’s taken a whopping $349 million domestically in the US, and $1.15 billion throughout the rest of the world, affirming it as the year’s biggest.

It’s even outdone ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, which is on $1.3 billion from a $250 million budget, but Marvel could easily make up the numbers in the coming weeks after only coming out three weeks later.
