The director of ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey' has announced that two sequels, based on EL James' follow up novels 'Fifty Shades Darker' and 'Fifty Shades Freed', are coming to cinemas.

MTV reports that British filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson revealed the news to a rapt audience at the film’s first fan screening in New York over the weekend, telling them that two sequels are currently in the works although no release dates were discussed.

The first film in the now-planned trilogy is coming to cinemas this Friday amid reports that cinema chains are seeing seeing record ticket pre-sales for the erotic thriller. US ticket retailer Fandango says the film is the highest selling R-rated title in its history, and so sequels seem to be increasingly inevitable.

It’s not clear whether its stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are signed up for both sequels, but you can expect their deals to have included a retainer for further instalments, based on the first film’s performance.

Seeing that Sam Taylor-Johnson announced the news herself, you can assume that the British director will remain on board the franchise, but it’s not clear yet whether she’ll return to direct ‘Darker’ or ‘Freed’ or just stick around to produce.

'Fifty Shades Of Grey' is coming to cinemas on Friday, 13 February. Watch a clip below.
