First Actors Announced For Christmas Horror Movie Krampus

Michael Dougherty, writer-director of cult Halloween movie ‘Trick ‘r Treat,’ is getting back in the seasonal horror movie game with a macabre take on the Christmas movie in ‘Krampus.’

Co-written by Dougherty with Todd Casey and Zach Shields, the movie is based on the European folklore of Santa Claus’s demonic parallel figure who dishes out punishment on the naughty children - and now its first cast members have been announced.

The Wrap report that Adam Scott (above) and David Koechner will star as “fathers whose children have gone missing under mysterious circumstances.” These children will be portrayed by young actors Stefania Owen and Emjay Anthony. Alison Tolman (TV’s ‘Fargo’) will also star, and other news outlets inform that Toni Collette (‘The Sixth Sense’) has also been cast.

Anthony, recently seen in Jon Favreau’s ‘Chef,’ will take a key role as “a target of the Krampus who serves as the hero of the film.”

Scott and Koechner are both best known for the comedy roles, Scott having been a star of TV’s ‘Parks and Recreation’ and the upcoming ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2,’ whilst Koechner is most famous for his role in the ‘Anchorman’ movies.

However, neither is a stranger to horror, with Scott having starred in ‘Piranha 3D,’ and Koechner in its sequel ‘Piranha 3DD.’ Koechner has since appeared in well-regarded indie horror ‘Cheap Thrills.’

Not much else is known about ‘Krampus,’ such as whether or not it will again follow the anthology format of Dougherty’s much-loved ‘Trick ‘r Treat,’ and/or whether it will be aiming for an R or PG-13 rating.

Early reports are calling it a ‘horror comedy,’ but this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be light-hearted - nor does having children as central characters necessarily make the film a kids’ movie (this certainly wasn’t the case on ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ either).

Still yet to begin production, ‘Krampus’ is scheduled to hit cinemas on 4 December 2015.
