Resident Evil, the brilliant series of survival horror video games, is rebooting its film series with a new reboot titled Welcome to Raccoon City that has a pretty damn impressive cast.

Sony Pictures has dropped some new first look pictures from the upcoming film, showing off The Maze Runner and Skins star Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, The Flash's Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Umbrella Academy's Tom Hooper as Albert Wesker, Richard Aiken as Chad Rook, and Avan Jogia as Leon S Kennedy, as well as the mutated Lisa Trevor.

The characters are exploring the iconically creepy Spencer Mansion from the first game, with Lisa coming from the first game's remake.

Fans will know that Claire and Leon aren't involved in the mansion incident, whereas Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen) is, but she's not seen here.

Well, Welcome to Raccoon City, as its name implies, also takes place in the city from the second and third games. We know from previous casting news that evil Police Chief Brian Irons will be in the film, so it really is a mix of the first few games.

Speaking earlier this year, Hooper explained that his Wesker will be a bit more fleshed-out that his game counterpart, who is pretty straightforward in his delicious evil hamminess.

"I think fans of the game will be happy, but at the same time, I think they should recognise that we want to make these characters as real and as grounded as possible," he told Collider.

"I wanted him to be a bit more three-dimensional... and have a moral high ground. It's not just as cut and dry as it is in the game.

"There's an origin element to Wesker in this, and what he maybe was before he turned into the one we see in a lot of the games."

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is scheduled for release on December 3.
