Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon is swapping the skin-flaying for some good old Christmas cheer next month alongside Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto.

Set to premiere on Sky Cinema and NOW on Friday, December 10, his musical movie A Christmas Number One puts the former Ramsay Bolton actor in the role of thrash-metalhead Blake Cutter, who's convinced by his niece Nina (News of the World's Helena Zengel) to write a Christmas tune.

Directed by BAFTA winner Chris Cottam and integrating original music from Guy Chambers – including 'A Christmas Wish' sung by Cerys Matthews and Rheon – this one also features a slew of other big names in the form of singing sensation Alfie Boe (Mr Selfridge), Debi Mazar (Goodfellas) and Richard Fleeshman (Coronation Street).

An official synopsis reads: "Fresh from a breakup with the world's hottest popstar, music manager Meg Rai (Pinto) leaves New York for London to manage a boyband, 5 Together, who are desperate for a Christmas hit after their latest self-written album flopped."

That's when Blake gets the advice to change up his sound a little by niece Nina, before Meg realizes she may be onto to something with his festive hit. The synopsis continues: "Will this be the Christmas number one the boy band desperately needs or will Blake, the song, and Nina show Meg what truly matters?"

Elsewhere on the Most Wonderful Time of the Year front, none other than Dwayne Johnson is busy developing a Christmas movie with Fast & Furious writer Chris Morgan.

It's titled Red One and has been described as "a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre".

Sounds about right.

A Christmas Number One is available on Sky Cinema and NOW from December 10.
