Yahoo Movies The Flash director says movie sets up a DC Multiverse
The Flash director Andy Muschietti has explained how the superhero movie will set up the idea of a DC multiverse.
After it was revealed yesterday (Thursday, August 20) that Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the Scarlet Speedster's long-awaited solo outing, comic book movie fans were left wondering what that would mean in regards to Robert Pattinson's incarnation of the character in Matt Reeves' upcoming outing The Batman.
Now, the filmmaker has attempted to reassure even the most confused of viewers.

"This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we've seen before are valid," Muschietti told Vanity Fair recently.
"It's inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you've seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse."
Over the years, Marvel has seen actors such as Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson and Hayley Atwell appear in the same roles across both the franchise's film and TV series. That list is set to grow exponentially, too, when the MCU's Disney+ titles Hawkeye, WandaVision, Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiere.

DC, however, has typically had different stars portray the same characters in its small screen and big screen productions. For example, Grant Gustin brings Barry Allen to life within the Arrowverse, while Ezra Miller played him in Justice League and will again in The Flash.
Similarly, Birds of Prey saw Scott Pilgrim's Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Lovecraft Country's Jurnee Smollett play Huntress and Black Canary respectively – figures that have been played in some way by Jessica de Gouw, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy elsewhere.
The idea that each of the worlds co-exist and are interconnected, rather than just separate entities, was explored in the six-part Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Not only did Gustin and Miller come face-to-face on screen, but Smallville's Tom Weller and Superman Returns' Brandon Routh appeared as the Man of Steel.
The Flash is currently scheduled for release in cinemas on July 1, 2022.
