George Lucas Reveals His Star Wars VII Script Was Scrapped

George Lucas recently revealed that he knows nothing at all about the upcoming ‘Star Wars VII’… and that’s because his own script was snubbed by Disney.

During an interview with Cinema Blend, the 70-year-old ‘Star Wars’ creator revealed that his original sequel scripts were not used when Disney bought the franchise.

“The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those,” he explained. “So they made up their own. So [Star Wars: The Force Awakens is] not the ones that I originally wrote.”

Unfortunately, Lucas refused to go into detail about his ‘Star Wars’ sequel scripts… and all we know so far is that he was working on them for a good year or so before selling Lucasfilm to Disney.

Although Lucas stops short of telling us what happens, I get the feeling that we won’t find out about his versions until after ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ appears in cinemas… if at all.

But there’s also a bit more to this story.

Current internet speculation suggests that scriptwriter Michael Arndt was removed from the project after working on a George Lucas-based screenplay. And at this point, Disney chose to shift the focus towards an entirely new concept.

Unfortunately, the folks at Disney could not be reached for a comment… but I suspect that they’d rather keep the inner workings of the sequel trilogy under their hat for now.

‘Star Wars VII’ is said to feature the return of Luke Skywalker, as well as saga favourite Han Solo and Princess Leia as they pass the baton to a new generation of ‘Star Wars’ heroes. Will the film borrow any elements of George’s script? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But after his work on the prequel trilogy, perhaps it all worked out in the end.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
