Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: James Gunn Completes First Draft Of Script

James Gunn has completed and submitted his first draft of the script for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’.

He took to Facebook to announce the news with a photo of the script’s cover page and a quick message to fans, friends and family.

“Phew. After 48 days straight without a day off, the the first draft of ‪#‎GotG2‬ is done,” wrote Gunn. “I’m sorry to all my friends and family who I have ignored.”

The 2017 sequel was announced shortly prior to the release of 'Guardians of the Galaxy’ last year, which against all conventional logic defied expectations to be one of the year’s highest grossing movies, kick-starting a new franchise for Marvel and reinvigorating an ageing comic book license.

In the comments Gunn responded to a fan asking about Marvel’s involvement in the script and the connections to other films. “I told Marvel what I wanted to do, and they said okay,” Gunn replied. “They gave me nothing. That said, I already know where things are basically going.“

Gunn has been open with his fans during the writing process, revealing in April that the film will be "a story about fathers”. Fathers were already important in the original film, with Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula’s (Karen Gillan) father Thanos (Josh Brolin), Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) adopted father Yondu (Michael Rooker) and the revelation that his real father was alive and well.

Gunn also stated a desire to increase the size of Karen Gillan’s role in the sequel.

'Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ is set for release in May 2017.
