Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Will Be More Emotional

If you were choked up at the phrase ‘We Are Groot’, then ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ will likely have you in tears. At least, according to director James Gunn.

During an interview with Collider, the Marvel director explained that the upcoming ‘Guardians’ sequel will be even more emotional than the first film.

“Well I think I’ve said so much already,” he responded when pressed about the film’s content. “It’s going to be exciting. I think it’s a more emotional movie. It’s both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters. We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie and I think we focus a lot on that.”

Of course, Chris Pratt’s journey as Peter Quill was at the heart of the original ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film… and from its very first moments, it was clear that the movie was all about family.

And that definitely extended to the film’s ending.

After defeating Ronan and saving Nova Prime, we find out that Peter Quill isn’t quite as human as he thought… as a DNA scan reveals that his father was an alien being – or more specifically, some kind of ancient unknown species.

This revelation is bound to be explored in the sequel… and James Gunn all but confirms it.

But who will Star-Lord’s father be?

I can’t help wondering whether this will tie into rumours that Adam Warlock will appear in the ‘Guardians’ sequel… with his evil alter-ego Magus rumoured for ‘Avengers: Inifinity War’.

“You’ll have to wait and see the movie to see who’s introduced,” Gunn says when asked about Magus. But with Adam Warlock’s cosmic origins as well as Marvel’s penchant for mixing things up from the comic books, I get the feeling that Warlock might know something about Peter Quill’s father.

If he’s in the movie, that is.

Of course, the subject of missing father’s is likely to take us on an even bigger emotional journey than the first movie. But as for the identity of Star-Lord’s father, for now we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, there’s one thing we know for sure – there’s plenty more Awesome Mix to come.

“We haven’t listened to Awesome Mix 2 yet, so we’ll get to hear that in the sequel…”

‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
