Harrison Ford Injured By Millennium Falcon

Although filming has only just begun on ‘Star Wars VII’, it looks as though Harrison Ford has been injured on the set of the upcoming sequel.

According to a statement from Disney, the 71-year-old ‘Star Wars' legend has injured his ankle on set… but this apparently won't affect filming.

"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’," they explained.

"He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

According to reports, Ford was taken by air ambulance to the specialist fracture unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he was also to have tests on injuries to his chest.

A source close to production has told The Hollywood Reporter some further details of his injury… and it sounds like quite a mishap.

"The actor, who reprises his role as Han Solo from the original franchise, was injured by the door of the Millennium Falcon, the spacecraft that his character pilots in the original films, and looks to be making a return in the sequel."

Amusingly, the Daily Mail added a statement from Thames Valley Police, which read: “We were called to Pinewood studios at 5.05pm after reports of a 71-year-old man being injured by a garage door.”

Of course, the severity of his injury is being kept under wraps… but with treatment required from a local hospital, it certainly sounds more serious then we’d hope. And while Disney is keen to downplay the injury, we have to wonder - how will this really affect the film?

Although Disney explain that shooting will continues ‘as planned’ while Ford recuperates from his injury, I can’t help thinking that this could have further implications - especially if he was on set shooting scenes with the Millennium Falcon.

Will pivotal scenes have to be delayed until Ford is back on his feet? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But we wish Harrison Ford all the best. And may the Force be with him.

Will Harrison Ford be back on his feet soon enough? Could his injury affect the ‘Star Wars VII’ shooting schedule? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
