Harrison Ford says Indiana Jones 5 delay was because they "wanted it to be the best"

Harrison Ford is indeed returning for a fifth instalment of Indiana Jones, but nothing will be going ahead until everything is absolutely perfect, the actor has revealed.

Fans have been waiting over a decade for the archaeologist action franchise to make up for the debacle of The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and now Ford has explained why it's taken so long to make the fifth film.

While promoting his new movie Call of the Wild, the iconic actor was asked by HeyUGuys what fans should expect from the next Indie adventure, to which he replied: "I don't really want to give them what they want to see, I want to give them something they didn't anticipate.

"They are used to a degree of disappointment when you revisit. Certainly, the Marvel movies have made a spectacular example of a success that worked the other way around, they killed it!"

He then went onto to explain that they're currently working around scheduling and script issues, to ensure that they also 'kill it'.

"We're not going to make another Indiana Jones unless we are in a position to kill it. We want it to be the best.

"We've got some scheduling issues and a few script things to do but we are determined to get it right before we get it made."

After accepting her BAFTA Fellowship at the beginning of February, producer Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that her team is still hard at work on Indiana Jones 5.

"We're working away, getting the script where we want it to be," she told BBC News. "And then we'll be ready to go."

She also shot down the rumours of the next film being a reboot once and for all, insisting: "Oh no, Harrison Ford will be involved. It's not a reboot. It's a continuation… He can't wait. He absolutely is [up for it]."

Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to be released by Disney on July 9, 2021.
