Harry Potter Short Story Hints At Marriage Problems For Lead Characters

Harry Potter is now middle-aged in JK Rowling’s new short story more than a decade after the last book…and also possibly struggling with married life.

The author has written a 1,500-word story for the Pottermore website that sees the teenage wizard now 34-years-old and battling grey hair.

In timely fashion, it’s written as a series of match reports and gossip columns based around the Quidditch World Cup – also hosted by Brazil – by gossip journalist character Rita Skeeter.

As you’d expect from Skeeter, it also features plenty of unflattering hearsay about famous ‘Potter’ characters.

She even hints that the lead trio might not be happily married after all - writing that a new cut on Harry’s cheekbone could be down to a fight with his wife, Ginny Weasley.

Skeeter also hints that Hermione had an affair with famous Quidditch star “the muscular Viktor Krum” before settling down with Ron.

These details could be a mischievous critique by Rowling on modern celebrity journalism.

Some of the other info we find out includes:

- Ron Weasley’s famous ginger hair is ‘thinning slightly’.
- He also runs a joke shop.
- Harry has “threads of silver” in his black hair.
- He is an Auror - member of an elite unit of specialist officers trained to apprehend Dark Wizards.
- Hermione enjoyed a “meteoric rise” to Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
- The trio are “no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were in their heyday, but nevertheless recognisable.”
- Neville Longbottom is a popular Herbology teacher at Hogwarts, married to Hannah.
- Luna Lovegood is married to Newt Scamander’s grandson, Rolf, and they have twin boys.

It’s the first update on the iconic characters since the epilogue of ‘Harry Potter and the ‘Deathly Hallows Part 2’.

However, fans shouldn’t get too excited, as Rowling’s publisher has said she has no plans to write any more books about the grown-up Harry, who was played by Daniel Radcliffe in the films.

One treat for moviegoers will be the adaptation of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’, which will see Rowling make her screenwriting debut.

The films will follow the life of Newt Scamander and is set in the same fictional universe.

The first installment will be released in November 2016.
