Henry Cavill Discusses His Future As Superman

Henry Cavill has again expressed his excitement about the upcoming ‘Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ and commented on how long he anticipates playing the Man of Steel.

In a video interview (via Mail Online), the 31-year old Jersey born actor said of the future Warner Bros/DC movie, “It’s Zack Snyder, so it’s going to be a visual spectacle. And it’s cinematic history. We’re doing Batman and we’re doing Superman, and it’s all happening at the same time. So, fingers crossed it turns out to be as exciting as I think it is.”

Asked whether he had given any advice to his fledgling Batman co-star Ben Affleck, Cavill smiled, “We’re talking about Ben Affleck here. I don’t need to give him any advice. The guy’s a legend. He does his own thing! He’s great. He’s fantastic.”

Cavill would seem very comfortable in the blue bodysuit and red cape, as in a further recent interview with The Anglophile Channel, he suggests he’s in it for the long haul with Warners/DC.

Asked how many times he hopes to play Superman again, Cavill replied, “As many as it takes. I love the character. I love working with Warner Bros. and what they’re doing with it, and so fingers crossed I’ll be able to tell the story for many, many years to come.”

True enough, Cavill looks set to become the most prolific big-screen Superman yet. With 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’ set to be followed up by ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ in 2016, two ‘Justice League’ movies in 2017 and 2019, and a further Superman solo movie promised after that, Cavill may well have played the role five times by 2020.

By contrast, Christopher Reeve - still arguably the most beloved Superman actor of them all - took the role in only four films between 1978 and 1987… and most of us would prefer to forget the latter two of those.

Still, the most prolific Superman actors have been on the small screen. Dean Cain appeared in 87 episodes of ‘Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman’ in the 1990s; George Reeves did 102 episodes of ‘Adventures of Superman’ in the 1950s, plus the 1951 movie ‘Superman and the Mole Men;’ and Tom Welling played Clark Kent in 217 episodes of 2000s prequel series ‘Smallville.’

Hopefully we should be getting our first look at Cavill in action in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ when the trailer arrives in the not too-distant future. The film itself arrives in March 2016.
