Hugh Jackman Comments On Wolverine Sequel With Patrick Stewart

Hugh Jackman has commented on the rumours that the next ‘Wolverine’ solo movie will also see Patrick Stewart reprise the role of Professor Xavier.

Stewart himself first revealed that this might be on the cards last week, as well as mentioning that Ian McKellen might be involved in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ - which proved quite the revelation, as many had expected that last year’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ would prove the X-movie swansong of both actors.

Confronted on the matter by Joblo, Jackman responded, “I’m not going to deny it. I’ve learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I’m terrible.

"But, I’ve always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it’s a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven’t really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it’s not not not not not going to happen.”

Yeah, we think that last line may be intended in jest.

Not a great deal else is known for sure about the next ‘Wolverine’ solo movie other than that it will see the return of James Mangold, director of 2013’s ‘The Wolverine.’ Patrick Stewart, for his part, remarked only that the film should be “very different” from anything we’ve seen thus far in the X-movies.

Rumours suggest the film may tackle the popular comic book storyline ‘Old Man Logan,’ written by Mark Millar, which takes a somewhat ‘Dark Knight Returns’-esque approach by following an aged, retired Wolverine in a post-apocalyptic future. This idea would seem plausible, as there is also speculation that the film may finally see Jackman hang up his claws for good.

At present it has not been confirmed whether or not Jackman will appear in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ but if he does then the third ‘Wolverine’ movie will mark his eighth appearance in his signature role - or ninth, if we count his very brief, tongue-in-cheek cameo in ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Either way, it’s an unprecedented track record for playing a comic book character on the big screen.

With or without Jackman, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is due to hit screens on 27 May 2016, whilst the still untitled ‘Wolverine’ sequel will arrive on 3 March 2017.
