Is Another Amazing Spider-Man Movie Happening Already, With Andrew Garfield?

In what is sure to be a surprise to Spider-fans everywhere, there are indications that a third ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ movie may be entering production soon, with lead actor Andrew Garfield lined up to return.

A casting call has emerged online from New York-based casting agency Bill Beckman Casting, calling for extras in Atlanta, Georgia to work on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3.’ Garfield and Dane DeHaan (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s Harry Osborn/Green Goblin) are listed as the stars, although there is no mention of director Marc Webb.

The brief film description reads ‘Peter Parker/Spider-Man faces a new challenge to protect New York City.’ (Never saw that coming…)

If this casting call is legitimate, it’s quite an unexpected development in the ongoing saga of Sony’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ series for a number of reasons. Firstly, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ is not scheduled to hit screens until 2018; secondly, the series has never shot in Atlanta, Georgia thus far.

Most significantly, though, there has been widespread speculation that ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ might have been abandoned outright - and Andrew Garfield along with it - after the somewhat lukewarm audience reaction to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’

There remain rumours that Sony and Marvel Studios may still be in negotiations over Spider-Man, with Marvel potentially standing to regain creative control of the character - and, just maybe, being able to incorporate their iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Naturally, talk of a third ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ going into production casts serious doubts over this.

On the other hand, could this ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ in fact turn out to be ‘The Sinister Six?’ Despite the relative limbo Sony’s Spidey movies seem to be in at present, the planned spin-off movie based around the team of super-villains (from ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ writer-director Drew Goddard) is still officially lined up for a November 2016 release, meaning that’s the film most likely to go into production next.

It’s almost a foregone conclusion that DeHaan’s Green Goblin would appear in this super-villain team-up movie, and Garfield’s Spider-Man could surely at least have a cameo.

Could this casting call for ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ be a simple misunderstanding, then? Either way, someone knows something we don’t. Watch this space for more as we hear it.
