J.K. Rowling Clashes With Former Harry Potter Fan Over 'Gay Dumbledore'

J.K. Rowling is in no mood to suffer critics of her decision to reveal that Professor Dumbledore from her Harry Potter series was gay.

Earlier this year, the writer tweeted of how she had ‘hated killing off’ characters in the final book in the series, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’.

“It’s the 16th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. I’m having a moment’s silence over my keyboard. I hated killing some of those people,” she said.

However, one Rowling follower, picking up on her old message and replying to her this weekend, decided to take issue with her other well-publicised decision – revealed after the books were published.

“Once u revealed Dumbledore was homosexual I stopped being a fan. Nice how u blindsided us with that one. Enjoy your billion $ (sic),” they wrote.

Rowling was quick to retort:

“@halfelven55ff I advise you to start following Brian Souter at once. He’s much more your kind of person.”

It would now appear that the user’s account has been deleted.

Brian Souter is the Scottish businessman who spent £1 million of his own money campaigning to keep a local government clause which forbade local authorities from ‘intentionally promoting homosexuality’ from being abolished.

He was widely accused of homophobia for the move.

Rowling outed the Hogwarts headmaster, played first by Richard Harris and then by Michael Gambon in the movies, in 2007, adding that he was in love with his rival Gellert Grindelwald.

She revealed the bombshell during a book tour in the US telling an audience at Carnegie Hall in New York, who immediately burst into spontaneous applause.

“I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy,” she said.
