James Wan May Direct Aquaman

Fresh from the huge box-office success of ‘Fast & Furious 7,’ it seems director James Wan is being courted by another mega-franchise, the DC Cinematic Universe, as it is reported that Warner Bros want him to direct ‘Aquaman.’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wan has not yet been made an offer but “some preliminary talks have taken place” for the Australian filmmaker to direct Jason Momoa in his first solo movie as the amphibious adventurer.

Nor is this the first DC movie Wan has been linked to, as rumours surfaced last year that he might be in line to re-unite with his ‘Fast & Furious 7′ star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson on ‘Shazam.’

It’s interesting to see how quickly Wan seems to be elevating through the blockbuster ranks, given what a surprise choice he was to take over from departing ‘Fast & Furious’ 3 through 6 director Justin Lin.

Previously, Wan had worked almost exclusively in comparatively low budget horror movies, notably ‘Saw,’ ‘The Conjuring’ and the first two ‘Insidious’ films.

While plans are in place for an eighth ‘Fast & Furious,’ it is not yet known whether Wan will return to direct this sequel; were he to do so, this would likely impede his availability to make ‘Aquaman.’

Wan will also start work on ‘The Conjuring 2: the Enfield Poltergeist’ later this year, which might also monopolise his time.

No casting on ‘Aquaman’ has been announced beyond Momoa, nor has there been any indication of the film’s plot, though it is reported that two screenwriters -  Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad - are working concurrently on two seperate scripts in order to keep the studio’s options open.

‘Aquaman’ is due to hit screens in July 2018, but before then Jason Momoa will make his debut in the role in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ due March 2016.
