James Wan To Direct Shazam?

It looks as though ‘Fast & Furious 7’ director James Wan has been confirmed for an undisclosed DC comic book movie… but will he actually take the helm of ‘Shazam’?

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. has heavily expanded its DC line up with the announcement of an entire slate of comic book movies. We’ve seen fan favourites such as ‘The Flash’ and even ‘Aquaman’ confirmed for their very own movies… but who will direct the upcoming big screen debut of Shazam? It looks as though James Wan might just have signed on…

In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, New Line President and CCO Toby Emmerich revealed that Wan has been tapped forn upcoming DC project… but it seems it’s still under wraps.

“New Line has always been a big believer in great filmmakers emerging from the horror genre,” he said, “and he has the potential to grow like Frank Darabont did, from writing ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street 3’ to writing and directing ‘The Shawshank Redemption’.”

"James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one.”

Of course, there’s currently no mention of which DC project James Wan is attached to… and that’s likely to remain a mystery for now. But could he be prepping for ‘Shamaz’ – arguably DC’s most obscure announcement?

It’s certainly possible… and with Dwayne Johnson already confirmed to play Black Adam in the upcoming superhero movie, it’s a move that would pair the up-and-coming director with a very familiar face.

Unfortunately, we likely won’t find out for some time. After all, Warner Bros. has only just announced the new line-up, and with no release dates attached, we’re not even sure when the ‘Shazam’ movie will be heading to cinemas.

But will James Wan be at the helm? I get the feeling it’s already a done deal.
