Jared Leto Reveals First Stage of Drastic Joker Makeover For Suicide Squad

It’s not often that a haircut makes the news, but when you’re a hirsute star like Jared Leto and you’re preparing to play the biggest movie role of your career, it’s time to hold the front page.

We knew he’d ditched his trademark flowing locks to play The Joker, but the actor was virtually unrecognisable when he stepped out sporting a bleach-blonde crewcut and white roll-neck sweater at Paris Fashion Week today.

These photos give us our first proper look at the direction the Oscar-winning actor is taking for his transformation into Batman’s arch-nemesis in the forthcoming film ‘Suicide Squad’. Presumably he's gone platinum blonde to make it easier to dye his hair Joker green.

The film’s director David Ayer posted photos earlier this week showing Leto’s trademark Jesus locks getting snipped in preparation to play the Clown Prince of Crime, but it didn’t show us the peroxide blonde look we see here.

What does this tell us about his incarnation of the Joker? Not a great deal, but it seems like the star is keen to give us something radically different to Heath Ledger’s lank-haired Joker we saw in ‘The Dark Knight’.

His portrayal, which proved to be one of the late Australian actors final screen performances, earned him a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2009, so rather than try to ape that, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star is going for something completely different.

Leto will play The Joker in Ayer’s 2016 supervillain team up movie ‘Suicide Squad’ alongside Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot.
