Jason Momoa Excited About Aquaman

After landing the role of Aquaman, it looks as though Jason Momoa can’t wait to join the Justice League…

During an interview with The Daily Beast, the 35-year-old ‘Aquaman’ actor revealed that he can’t wait to enter the Justice League… after all, his kids are big fans.

“It’s awesome knowing that I’m going to be in Justice League because my son is the biggest Batman fan and my daughter loves Wonder Woman,” he said. “It’ll be cool for them to see me in something because they’re not going to be watching Game of Thrones or Red Road anytime soon, but now they can see Daddy kicking ass in IMAX.”

Of course, Jason Momoa rose to geek fame after his appearance as Kal Drago in ‘Game of Thrones’… but he already built up quite a following after starring in ‘Stargate Atlantis’ – a role which may come in handy considering Aquaman’s Atlantean roots.

But Momoa explains that he’s happy to bring about a very different kind of Aquaman… and to represent the Hawaiian people on the big screen.

“I’ve had to bust ass to be in this industry,” he said. “A lot of things are very black and white. Aquaman is especially cool because being a Kanaka Maoli - being Hawaiian - our Gods are Kanaloa and Maui, and the Earth is 71 percent water, so I get to represent that. And I’m someone who gets to represent all the islanders, not some blond-haired superhero. It’s cool that there’s a brown-skinned superhero.”

Obviously, with Momoa’s casting it looks as though director Zack Snyder is trying to edge away from Aquaman’s rather cheesy comic book roots. Often derided over the usefulness of his powers, the blonde-haired Aquaman has lately become a force to be reckoned with… and Momoa certainly embodies that.

And it looks as though he can finally shrug off his own rather cheesy past as a lifeguard in ‘Baywatch Hawaii’.

“It’s a trip,” he laughed. “I spent 15 years trying to dig myself out of the Baywatch hole, and now I’m Aquaman. Life is very good.”

‘Aquaman’ heads to cinemas on 27 July 2018.
