Jason Momoa Set To Star In Cannibal Romance, The Bad Batch

It has been confirmed that future Aquaman actor Jason Momoa is in talks to appear in ‘The Bad Batch,’ a very unusual-sounding dystopian sci-fi fantasy.

We voiced our suspicions last month that Momoa might have been up for the movie, after glimpsing his distinctive tattooed forearm holding up the script in a photograph posted on Twitter, alongside the film’s writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour.

Now, The Wrap have announced that this looks set to be the case, though his appearance in ‘The Bad Batch’ would not appear to be a done deal just yet.

Set to be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures and Danny Gabai and Sina Sayyah of Vice, ‘The Bad Batch’ will be the second film from Amirpour. who made her debut with last year’s ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night,’ an unconventional vampire movie which won rave reviews at several major film festivals in 2014.

As we remarked when first hearing of ‘The Bad Batch,’ it sounds epic and deranged enough to be a perfect fit for Momoa: Amirpour has described it as “a cannibal love story set in a post apocalyptic Texan wasteland. There’s going to be muscle men and amputees set against a desert backdrop… It’s going to be really weird and romantic and also very violent.”

The writer-director has also described it as “my ‘Mad Max’ meets ‘Gummo’” - and, even more intriguingly, “‘Road Warrior’ meets ‘Pretty in Pink.’”

There does not appear to be any confirmation as to when ‘The Bad Batch’ will commence production, let alone reach cinemas, but it seems likely it will go before cameras at some point later this year - though whether this means it will make it to screens before Momoa makes his debut as Aquaman in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ remains to be seen.
