Fans of Kevin Smith’s shared View Askewniverse have a new note for their diaries, as Jay and Silent Bob Reboot has inked a UK cinema release date.

The new film featuring the characters played by Jason Mewes and Smith will land in British cinemas on 29 November.

It sees the title characters travelling to Hollywood in an attempt to stop a movie reboot of the film-within-a-film seen in 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

That film, starring American Pie actor Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek, was based on the comic book characters Bluntman and Chronic, created by the Jay and Silent Bob characters, who first appeared in Smith’s directorial debut Clerks.

There’s also an added wrinkle when Jay’s ex-girlfriend reveals that they have a daughter together, who is played by Smith’s real-life daughter Harley Quinn Smith.

To say this is all a tangled web of meta storytelling would be an understatement.

As if to pre-empt fans who might be worried that the duo have lost their touch, Smith has previously described the reboot as “literally the same f***ing movie all over again”.

He added: “It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time.”

Fans will also be treated to the expected onslaught of celebrity cameos in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, with Smith regulars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck among those appearing alongside Marvel star Chris Hemsworth and Val Kilmer.

Smith will be hoping to return to his past successes after mixed reviews for his most recent films, including Yoga Hosers, Red State and Tusk.

Mewes also got behind the camera recently for his own uber-meta comedy Madness in the Method, which featured the final on-screen cameo by the late Stan Lee.

But the duo are back together in the roles that made them famous with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which is landing in cinemas in just a few months.
