Jeremy Renner Isn’t Pushing For Solo Hawkeye Film

Jeremy Renner has confirmed that he isn’t overly concerned about appearing in a solo Hawkeye film.

During a discussion with MTV, which he conducted to promote his upcoming thriller, ‘Kill The Messenger’, Renner confirmed, “I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he’s a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like ‘Cap 3’.”

Oops, did Renner just confirm his presence in the third instalment to Steve Rogers’ solo adventure? It would appear that way. And his cheeky little wink and smile to the camera proves that he would certainly be interested if it was offered his way. It would hardly be a surprise if Hawkeye did turn up in ‘Cap 3,’ as he was originally written into ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider,’ only for his scenes to be ultimately thrown out before shooting started.

Renner also chatted about the fall-out from his comments regarding his diluted appearance in ‘The Avengers’. ‘The Hurt Locker’ actor wasn’t pleased that his character was brainwashed by Loki early-on in the ensemble epic, and he told the LA Times just after the film was released, “At the end of the day, 90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play.”

However Renner has now confirmed that he has ironed out any problems he has with both Marvel’s head-honcho, Kevin Feige, and the writer/director of both ‘The Avengers’ and its upcoming follow-up, ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’, Joss Whedon, but he also refused to back-track on his original comments.

“What Joss, Feige, Ruffalo, Downey Jnr and I discussed early on was where Joss wanted to go with the script. Ultimately Joss realised that he was trying to do the impossible by working on ‘The Avengers’, and the only way he pulled it off, with me having any sizeable part in the movie, was by me being the bad-guy essentially, and not Hawkeye,” he explained, before he reiterated, “It’s not what we talked about, or what got me excited about doing the movie. But that’s fine. I trusted him”

Renner then revealed that their original ideas for Hawkeye in the first film are now in ‘Age Of Ultron’, adding that the character now has great “weight.”

So, despite a few teething problems, it seems as though Hawkeye’s position within the Marvel family is still firm, and even though he might not be flying solo anytime soon, he’s definitely still got a key role to play in the numerous upcoming additions to the universe.
