Jeremy Renner says Hawkeye Solo Movie is Part of His Marvel Contract

Jeremy Renner has admitted that a solo Hawkeye movie is part of his existing contract with the studio.

Renner’s is contracted to feature in three ‘Avengers’ movies as the Avengers’ archer, and a solo movie should Marvel Studios be interested in making one.

The ‘Hurt Locker’ star made the comments in an interview with The Daily Beast, saying: “I think most actors will sign on to do, like… ‘Captain America’ 1-3 and then ‘The Avengers’ 1-3, and then you’re done. For me, I signed on to The Avengers 1-3 and then Hawkeye, in case they want to do a Hawkeye spin-off.”

It’s a sensible move on the part of Marvel and could mean similar hypothetical movies might exist in the contracts of other actors in the series, such as Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.

A Black Widow spin-off has been rumoured for some time, and Renner is certainly someone who wants to see it.

Asked about that prospect, and Jessica Chastain’s comments that there should be more women leading Marvel superhero movies, Renner said: “I absolutely agree. I love strong female characters, and I think it’s really important… Strong female roles in cinema are hugely important to me. A lot of them seem to just service the guy, and it’s a travesty. You need to strike a good balance between the men and women in a movie, because that’s when things really ignite.”

Interviewer Marlow Stern then brought up this year’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and the focus that put on both Cap and Black Widow. “Right. I think that’s why they want a Hawkeye/Widow movie so bad,” he said.

Recent comments from the actor suggested that Hawkeye might appear in 2016’s ‘Captain America 3’ (he was in early drafts of the ‘Winter Soldier’ script) but quizzed about this time he gave a more diplomatic answer.

"I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “I know it’s going to start shooting in March. I haven’t had any official conversations about doing it or not.”

Renner will next appear in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ next April, which he says will offer both him and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk “more prominent roles” as well as featuring more scenes of the whole Avengers group together.

"It’s making me become a total fanboy. It’s pretty fun to be a part of.”

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' will be released on 24 April 2015.
