A hardcore Harry Potter fan who goes by the nom de plume @Johnnie_Rowling on Twitter has struck up an amazing online friendship with author JK Rowling.

The relationship, which began with a casual exchange on Twitter, hit new heights in August last year when Rowling sent Johnnie a touching note offering moral support and sorting him into Gryffindor house.

The staunch anti-bullying campaigner offered words of support to the troubled teen: “What you say about Harry helping you at what was clearly a dreadful time in your life means more to me than I can easily express. I freely confess that I loathe bullying and the way it is still so often “handled” in schools. Your experience is shocking and disturbing and that you have turned out to be a compassionate, moral, highly motivated person is high testimony to your courage. Gryffindor for you, my lad…”

The Scottish fan, whose real name is Johnnie Blue, told Buzzfeed: “By the time I was finished reading the letter, there were tears rolling down my face.”

“J.K. Rowling to me, is a hero. She’s saved so many peoples lives, along with mine, something I will be eternally grateful for.”

Johnnie received the letter after he gave a notebook - designed by Harry Potter book cover artist Jason Cockcroft - to the author at a book signing last year.

He included a handwritten note inside the book telling the ‘Harry Potter’ author how she’d changed his life for the better.

Since the exchange of notes the pair have continued to chat on Twitter.
