John Boyega: Star Wars VII Is Going Back To The Originals

‘Star Wars VII’ actor John Boyega claims that ‘The Force Awakens’ will take us back to the original trilogy… and that we should be very, very excited.

It’s no secret that J.J. Abrams has been keen to capture the magic of the original trilogy when it comes to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. We’ve heard time and time again that the first ever ‘Star Wars’ sequel is going back to practical filmmaking in an attempt to rekindle that old-world charm.

And now John Boyega confirms the look and feel of ‘Star Wars VII’…

During an interview with the BBC at last night’s BAFTA ceremony, the 22-year-old ‘Star Wars’ star explained what it’s like to be working in the galaxy far, far away…

“I think fans should be very excited,” he said. “We’re going back to the originals and we’re staying true to practical effects and we have the original cast back… it’s going to be a great time.”

Of course, we’ve already heard plenty of statements about the use of practical effects in ‘The Force Awakens’… and with a glimpse of the new puppets and X-Wings in Abrams’ recently released Force For Change videos, it looks as though a lot of effort has gone into recapturing that old-school charm.

But what was it like to work on ‘Star Wars VII’?

“It was brilliant,” said Boyega. “J.J. Abrams is obviously a passionate guy and he does well in this movie. I can’t wait for it to come out.”

And it seems he has just as much respect for his co-star, Daisy Ridley.

“I love Daisy,” he added. “Daisy is one of my closest friends and she’s obviously an amazing actress. And I think this is going to be her breakout role.”

Of course, the relationship between Boyega and Ridley’s characters have been a point of speculation amongst ‘Star Wars’ fans since we first saw them cast in the movie. Quite how it works out on screen remains to be seen… but it sounds as though they’ve spent a lot of time together on set.

And if you ask me, we’re looking at the two big stars of the ‘Star Wars’ saga for years to come.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
