Johnny Depp Poses For Jack Sparrow Selfie With Cops On Pirates 5 Set

Despite being hounded by the Australian authorities for allegedly smuggling his pet dogs into the country, Johnny Depp appeared to be happy to pose with the police on the set of ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5′.

The 51-year-old actor, dressed in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume, mingled with the public while on walkabout between takes on the fifth ‘Pirates’ film.

The Disney production is currently on location in Cleveland, Redland City and Depp took time out from his schedule to meet his fans including the local police officers who jumped at the chance to get a selfie. The photo of Johnny with the smiling coppers was shared on the Queensland Police Service’s Facebook page where it’s since earned over 80k likes.

Another photographer captured the magic moment from an alternate angle (below), revealing the true glee elicited from a meeting with the actual Jack Sparrow.

While the whole thing looks like a piece of impromptu fan service, it could just as easily be piece of carefully choreographed PR designed to win over the hearts and minds of the Aussie locals after a rather disastrous start to the shoot.

Depp’s time on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ has been plagued with problems so far. First he injured his hand while go-karting and had to be flown back to Los Angeles for surgery just weeks into production, then he had a run in with the Australian quarantine authorities when they discovered he’d smuggled his pet dogs into the country illegally.

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce issued an ultimatum to Depp and his wife Amber Heard threatening to put down their dogs Pistol and Boo unless they got them flown back to the States.

The Hollywood couple acquiesced and the pooches were flown home on a private jet, but it’s since been revealed that the actor could face a 10-year prison sentence for breaking the country’s strict quarantine laws.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’, which also stars Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, is coming to cinemas in 2017. Watch the impressive trailer for Johnny’s next film ‘Black Mass’ below.
