Jonah Hill has shared his struggles with body image after a tabloid story showed photos of him surfing and topless on the beach.

The Superbad star posted a screenshot of the Daily Mail story to Instagram, telling his followers that despite many years of not feeling comfortable taking his top off for swimming, he now finally loves and accepts himself.

Hill, who was photographed surfing in a wetsuit and then drying off afterwards, wrote: "I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends.

"Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers.

"So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope. I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself."

The Wolf Of Wall Street actor continued: "This isn’t a 'good for me' post . And it’s definitely not a 'feel bad for me post'. It’s for the the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love."

He ended his post with: "Oh and Daily Mail, not even you can take that smile from my face ;)"

Hill's celebrity friends were just as impressed with his message as his fans were.

Justin Timberlake commented: "You are a G!!! And my spirit animal! Love you, bro!"

Judd Apatow wrote: "When I take my shirt off at the beach it looks like I am still wearing a shirt...or sweater. Now I will show it off with pride!"

Rashida Jones added: "King energy."
