Joss Whedon Wants To Direct A DC Movie

It looks as though Marvel maestro Joss Whedon will be taking a break from ‘The Avengers’ for a while… but could he head up a DC comic book movie?

During an interview with IGN, the iconic Marvel director revealed that he wouldn’t mind jumping ship to take on one of DC’s superheroes.

“I desperately wanted to do a Batman film – who doesn’t? And I wanted to do Wonder Woman. I was a Marvel kid growing up, but I was always DC-curious. And I see myself on the spectrum in between.”

Of course, long before he became affiliated with Marvel Studios, the 50-year-old director began developing a new ‘Wonder Woman’ film – a movie which he began back in 2005 but ended up languishing in development hell.

But now Wonder Woman herself will be heading to the big screen… and Joss is rather pleased to see the character get her own film, even if he won’t be directing it.

“I don’t care who she’s seeing now” he joked. “We don’t talk much. And I wish her well!”

“I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot, but I don’t know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what their vision is,” he explained. “I’m excited to see it so I just want them to make it so I can see it!”

Of course, with Michelle MacLaren dropping out of the ‘Wonder Woman’ project, it’s now reported that Patty Jenkins will take over the director’s chair. But with nothing confirmed by the folks at Warner Bros. could joss be in with a shot?

Perhaps… but then, he seems to think his earlier vision wouldn’t mesh with the new DC universe. And that’s perhaps why his ‘Wonder Woman’ movie was canned in the first place.

But could he take on another DC superhero?

There are still plenty of upcoming solo movies – including ‘The Flash’, ‘Shazam’, ‘Cyborg’ and even ‘Green Lantern’. Could Joss Whedon be the perfect fit for one of them? We’ll have to wait and see. But I’d love to see his take on Shazam.
