Julie Delpy & Linda Cardellini Join Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Two unexpected additions to the cast of the incoming ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ have been announced, in Julie Delpy and Linda Cardellini.

A new cast list (confirmed as accurate by Den of Geek) has been published ahead of the world premiere of director Joss Whedon’s hugely anticipated Marvel sequel, and the two actresses - whose involvement in the film had not been mentioned beforehand - were on the list.

Naturally it’s a bit of a surprise to see two well-known actresses announced as having roles in the movie less than a fortnight before its premiere - and, even more naturally, it has some fan heads in a spin trying to figure out what their roles might be.

Perhaps inevitably, the question arises - could either Delpy or Cardellini turn out to be Captain Marvel?

Though the ‘Captain Marvel’ solo movie is not set to hit screens until November 2018, there have long been reports that at least one draft of the ‘Age of Ultron’ script featured an appearance from USAF pilot Carol Danvers, possibly prior to being imbued with the super-powers that make her Captain Marvel.

Honestly though, we’d be rather surprised if either Julie Delpy or Linda Cardellini had been cast as Danvers. While they’re both established actresses, we suspect Marvel might be after someone with greater star power (and, to be blunt, probably someone a little younger) for their first solo movie-bound female character.

39-year old American actress Cardellini is known for her TV roles in ‘Freaks and Geeks,’ ‘ER’ and ‘Mad Men,’ and for playing Velma in the ‘Scooby Doo’ movies, whilst 45-year old French actress Delpy is famed for Richard Linklater’s ‘Before Sunrise’ trilogy.

Well, as much as we might ponder, we won’t be kept in suspense too long to find out how the actresses will figure in the super-sequel, as ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ has its world premiere in Los Angeles on 13 April, and opens on UK screens on 23 April.
