Jurassic World Director Won’t Return For Sequel

‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow won’t be returning to Islar Nublar… as he reveals he likely won’t be directing the inevitable sequel.

During an interview with Spanish website Bad Taste, the ‘Jurassic World’ director revealed that he probably won’t direct its follow-up movie.

“Jurassic Park is like Star Wars,” he said. “Different directors can give a different taste to each movie. I would be involved in some way, but not as director.”

Of course, it’s no secret that big screen blockbusters often have a follow-up in the works long before they’ve made it to cinemas… and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if we see ‘Jurassic World 2’ someday.

But for the time being, we’ve heard nothing about a potential sequel.

Acting as a sequel-come-reboot to the ‘Jurassic Park’ trilogy, the new ‘Jurassic World’ is something of a mystery – even to the studio itself. And I can’t help thinking that Universal is likely waiting to gauge audience response before moving ahead with a potential follow-up.

Either way, it looks as though Colin Trevorrow won’t be at the helm.

Still, it sounds as though he will be involved in some way… although that’s likely in the form of a producer or executive producer just like Steven Spielberg is on ‘Jurassic World’. But will Colin Trevorrow move onto another iconic franchise?

He’s already signed up for ‘Book of Henry’ – an original script by Gregg Hurwitz – and has found himself attached to the upcoming sci-fi project, ‘Intelligent Life’. So his schedule may be a little packed. But there’s also some rather interesting speculation that he could consider heading to the galaxy far, far away – that’s right, ‘Star Wars’.

The folks over at /Film note that it was Brad Bird choosing not to direct ‘The Force Awakens’ which led to Trevorrow landing the ‘Jurassic World’ gig. And with the second anthology movie having lost Josh Trank, there seems to be room in the director’s chair for another director.

Could that be Colin Trevorrow? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But if ‘Jurassic World’ does as well as we hope, I get the feeling Disney might be persuaded to take an interest.

‘Jurassic World’ heads to cinemas on 11 June 2015.
