Jurassic World Super Bowl Trailer Reveals Much Improved CGI

A new trailer for ‘Jurassic World’ has been released to huge acclaim online mainly thanks to its drastically improved CGI. A quick glance at the image above shows the leaps and bounds made in the effects from the first trailer on the left, to the new one on the right.

It’s only been two months since the first trailer was released back in November, but it’s clear that the visual effects boffins at Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) have been working their socks off to avoid the same complaints about lacklustre CGI that were levelled at the first look trailer.

At the time, we were quick to defend the trailer’s admittedly underwhelming computer generated effects, saying that there was a lot of work to be done before the film’s release in June, and now it seems we were entirely justified.

If this is what they can achieve in just two months, imagine the changes we’ll see by the film’s final release.

Here are some more side by side comparisons that demonstrate how much the CGI in ‘Jurassic World’ has been refined so far.

The lighting and textures have been dramatically tweaked and now there are a lot more dinos, giving us that “flocking” effect.

Improved mosasaur

The leaping marine predator looks vastly better, in both close up and wide shots.

Better lighting

Whatever reservations you may have about apparently tamed raptors, you can’t deny that this whole shot has been immeasurably upgraded.

Besides the improved CGI, another area this new trailer has been upgraded is the use of dinosaurs created using practical effects. Director Colin Trevorrow has been very vocal about using physical models in the film, much like Steven Spielberg did to great effect in the first two films, so it’s heartening to finally see them in action.
