Jurassic World's New Dinosaur Indominus Rex Revealed

The brand new hybrid dinosaur set to terrorise all and sundry in this summer’s ‘Jurassic World’ has been revealed in new promo art.

The appearance of the new creature - previously thought to be called the D-Rex - had been kept a mystery by the first trailer for Colin Trevorrow’s fourth instalment in the much-loved monster movie series, and it had been expected this would remain the case until the film reached cinemas in June.

But now it would seem the genie (or some over-sized reptilian variation thereon) is out of the bottle. If you’d rather go in to the long-awaited blockbuster blind, best not to scroll down any further…

I’m not sure this reveal is quite the slam dunk we might have hoped for; ultimately, this ‘all-new’ dino doesn’t look all that different to the beloved velociraptor, grey skin tone and spiky back notwithstanding.

Then again, these images don’t give any real sense of scale - and all signs thus far have indicated the sucker will be huge.

As for that name: whilst Tyrannosaurus Rex translates as ‘tyrant king,’ Indominus Rex means fierce, untameable (or, we suppose, indomitable) king.

Readers might also note that this image would seem to confirm the return of the pterodactyls, whose presence was (let’s be honest) the key selling point of ‘Jurassic Park III’ - but who were notable by their absence from the ‘Jurassic World’ trailer.

These images also provide further conformation that T-Rex - another notable absentee from the ‘Jurassic World’ trailer - will also return, although director Trevorrow has long since declared as much. There has even been speculation that this could be the very same T-Rex who wreaked havoc in the original ‘Jurassic Park’ more than twenty years ago.

'Jurassic World' hits UK cinemas on 12 June 2015.
