Karen Gillan Explains Mystery Of Her Missing Hair (Exclusive)

Karen Gillan set the internet alight earlier this year when she suggested that her distinctive red hair, which she shaved off for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, would be turned into a wig for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’.

She told Collider, “They made my hair into the most incredible well-made wig and they gave it to the ‘Star Wars’ people.”

The hair of a former ‘Doctor Who’ companion, who is currently playing an evil baddie in a new Marvel film, ending up in ‘Star Wars’?

It’s too much for a nerd to comprehend, so we asked the actress to clarify the situation when we spoke to her about ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

“Marvel were very kind, so they shaved my hair off, then they were like, ‘We’re going to make this into a wig for you so that you still have it,’” explains the Scot in our video above.

Gillan wore the wig to San Diego Comic-Con last year, pulling it off the reveal her bald head in a dramatic fashion during the Marvel panel about ‘Guardians’. So what’s the connection to JJ Abrams ‘Star Wars’ sequel?

“It was made into a wig by the ‘Star Wars’ people. It was in the warehouse with all the monster heads, which was just really funny, because it was like – monster, monster, monster, my hair, monster.

“But it’s not going to be in ‘Star Wars’.”

So there we have it. Karen Gillan’s impressive ginger wig was (probably) made by the team who make Chewbacca’s furry head.

The connection between the two films shouldn’t be too surprising as both films are made by Disney and the two productions shared neighbouring studios in Surrey.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, which opens on Thursday, is heavily influenced by ‘Star Wars’, so this link seems strangely fitting.
