Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks Join Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon

The cast for Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming horror movie ‘The Neon Demon’ continues to grow in scale and profile with the addition of Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks.

Variety reports that the stars have signed on for the new film, which they describe as a “subversive female-driven horror tale.” Elle Fanning takes the lead as an up-and-coming model, whilst Jena Malone, Abbey Lee and Bella Heathcote co-star.

This will mark the first time Refn and Reeves have worked together, whilst Hendricks previously appeared in the Danish filmmaker’s US breakthrough, 2011’s ‘Drive.’

'The Neon Demon' is Refn's first film since his divisive 2013 effort 'Only God Forgives.' Given his penchant for enigma, the director has revealed virtually nothing about the plot other than that it is set in the world of modelling, and will see Fanning's character “caught in a world of beauty and demise.”

Christina Hendricks recently ended a hugely successful eight year run on acclaimed TV series ‘Mad Men.’ Her recent film appearances have included a role in her ‘Drive’ co-star Ryan Gosling’s widely panned directorial debut ‘Lost River,’ and later this year she will be seen alongside Chloe Moretz, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult in ‘Dark Places.’

As for Keanu Reeves. all being well this should continue the comeback trial the seasoned star has been blazing of late after his latest leading role in action thriller ‘John Wick’ garnered unexpected levels of praise on its US release. This is soon to be followed up by another leading role in ‘Knock Knock’ from director Eli Roth, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

'The Neon Demon' is set to shoot in Los Angeles in late March. Meanwhile, Reeves' 'John Wick' hits UK cinemas on 10 April.
