Marvel is still on the hunt for a man to play Doctor Strange after talks with Joaquin Phoenix failed to yield results last month, and now a new contender has entered the fray.

Keanu Reeves hasn’t auditioned – or at least we don’t yet know if he has – but the ‘Speed’ and ‘Matrix’ star has been talking about the character, as well as his stance on comic book movies and long-term multi-film contracts.

Speaking to Collider, Reeves was asked if he was aware of online chatter about him possibly playing Doctor Strange. The interviewer also mentions Phoenix and when asked by Reeves why he didn’t sign on, tells him about the multi-picture deals of stars like Samuel L Jackson and Chris Evans.

“From a practical standpoint the idea of a long-time contract is sort of ‘errr’ because you want to make sure the material is up to a certain level. Like the good or great level,” Reeves explained.

“I like the idea, I mean I go to those kinds of movies, I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels. I don’t know Doctor Strange as a character, I didn’t read that as a kid. I’m gonna have to read it.”

He asked the interview if he would be good for the role and of course he said yes.

As it stands ‘Doctor Strange’ has a director in ‘Sinister’s Scott Derrickson and a screenplay being written by Joshua Oppenheimer   and Jon Spaihts. It will like be released in the summer of 2016.
