Yahoo Movies The Knight Before Christmas sets itself up for a sequel with credits scene

The Knight Before Christmas might not strike you as a movie that will get a sequel, but it certainly leaves itself open for one.
Netflix's festive offering stars Vanessa Hudgens as cynical science teacher Brooke, who strikes up a romance with Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse), a medieval knight transported from 1334 to 2019 to fulfil an unknown quest.
If you've seen the movie, we shouldn't really have to warn you again, but there are major spoilers ahead.
So it will surprise no one that Brooke and Sir Cole declare their love for each other at the end.
Sir Cole's quest is to find his truest love as "love is the first and foremost of all knightly virtues" (of course), so even though he's sent back to 1334, he asks the "Old Crone" – genuine character name – to send him back to 2019.
To be back with the one he loves, Sir Cole actually misses out on the knighting ceremony of his younger brother, Sir Geoffrey Alexander Edward Lyons (Harry Jarvis). But it's OK, as we see the end of the ceremony during the end credits.
And it's here where the sequel tease kicks in.
Sir Geoffrey is approached by the Old Crone (Ella Kenion) in the same way that Sir Cole was at the start of the movie. She asks him for his help and unveils a glowing medallion that looks the same as the one that sent Sir Cole to the present day, except in a different colour.
So it looks like Sir Geoffrey is about to be sent on his own time quest to become a "true knight", like Sir Cole becomes at the end of the movie after finding his truest love.
Does that mean he'll go to the present day or perhaps even further into the future? Impossible to say at the moment, but if it does become the hook of the sequel, we imagine both Vanessa Hudgens – quickly becoming Netflix's go-to Christmas star – and Josh Whitehouse would be back.
Perhaps they'll have to search through time for Sir Geoffrey to make The Knight Before Christmas 2 a proper timey-wimey adventure? We'd watch it.
You might think that the very idea of a sequel to The Knight Before Christmas would be a bit ridiculous, but recent history suggests that Netflix is very keen to give its users more of what they want.
A Christmas Prince and The Princess Switch both became festive hits on Netflix in 2017 and 2018, respectively, so the company moved quickly to turn A Christmas Prince into a trilogy (the third movie is coming on December 5) and recently gave The Princess Switch a sequel for a planned 2020 release.
And The Knight Before Christmas firmly appeals to the same audience that watched those movies, so there's nothing to say it won't become enough of a hit to persuade Netflix to make a follow-up.
