Netflix's Knives Out 2 will be streaming from this autumn, it's been confirmed.

This thrilling update arrives via Variety, which also suggested Rian Johnson's whodunnit sequel may do the film festival rounds before dropping on the platform.

As was the case with its Netflix stablemates The Irishman and Don't Look Up, a theatrical release is also planned.

Knives Out 2 brings back Daniel Craig's master detective Benoit Blanc for a second star-studded mystery, with supporting players portrayed by Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Ethan Hawke and Kate Hudson.

Hahn, who spellbound Marvel fans last year as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, shared a few words about why she joined the project.

"Well, I love the ensemble of the first one. I was really turned on by, A) Rian Johnson's filmmaking, B) that he has an impeccable reputation as one of the nicest humans, and C) the ensemble. It just looked like every character was so specific and that it seemed to be a lot of equal ball-passing in a really fun way [during the original].

"It just looked like a blast to be on the set because it looked like there was no ball-hogging – just everybody passing the ball to each other with such generosity," she noted.

Meanwhile, wrestler-turned-actor Bautista believes this one will top Johnson's first Knives Out.

"I really think it's going to be as good, if not better, than the first one. I'm always afraid to say that because I don't want anybody to get offended saying that we're going to be better, but I really do think this.

"I think the characters are just so much more colourful," he explained. "I think people are really going to dig this. The characters are just so great. They're so different."

Knives Out is available to rent or buy now on DVD, Blu-ray or as a digital download – and a sequel is on the way for Netflix.
