The film is a moody and unique take on the traditional biographical music documentary, as the Bad Seeds band leader celebrates the amount of time he’s been alive.

Kylie is a good friend of her fellow Aussie and they worked together on the classic duet ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’. While he still writes and performs music, Cave has since branched out into screenwriting, penning the scripts for ‘The Proposition’ and ‘Lawless’.

Unlike usual talking head documentaries, Cave is an active participant in his, while Kylie appears in the back of his car, rather than on a chair against a green screen.

Remembering the first time she heard about his desire to duet with her, she says, “You were like this mist that rolled in.”

Going to watch the Bad Seeds perform, she was struck by his on-stage energy. “[You were] like a tree in a Hitchcock film,” she recalls, causing Cave’s frown to break into a grin. “In silhouette.”

'20,000 Days On Earth' is directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard and is released on 19 September.
