Leonardo DiCaprio tip to Timothée Chalamet: no hard drugs, no superhero films

Timothée Chalamet has revealed the career advice that was given to him by Leonardo DiCaprio.

The actor, who starred alongside DiCaprio in 2021’s Don’t Look Up, has spoken about the pair’s first meeting in 2018 when DiCaprio issued him salient advice.

“No hard drugs and no superhero movies,” Chalamet recalled in a new cover interview with British Vogue of DiCaprio’s advice.

Speaking about his rise to fame and his dreams of becoming an actor, Chalamet continued: “I had a delusional dream in my early teenage years to have, in my late teenage years, an acting career.

“And in my late teenage years, working on and starting to do theatre in New York, I felt like I reduced my goal to something more realistic, which was to work in theatre and hopefully make enough money doing either a TV show or something I could sustain myself [with].

“Then it felt like every dream came true, exponentially. And then life is moving at six million miles per hour,” he said.

Chalamet is promoting his new film Bones & All, which sees him return to working with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.

Bones & All follows a love story between a young woman (played by Taylor Russell) living on the margins of society and a disenfranchised drifter (Chalamet) as they embark on a 3,000-mile odyssey through the backroads of America.

Alongside Chalamet, the film also stars Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlberg, Andre Holland, Chloe Sevigny, Jessica Harper and David Gordon Green. Bones And All is released in US cinemas on 23 November, 2022. A UK date has not been set.

Chalamet is also set to play a young Willy Wonka in a prequel to Roald Dahl’s novel Charlie And The Chocolate Factory alongside Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and Olivia Colman.

Wonka is due to be released on 15 December, 2023.
