Liam Neeson: There's Too Many F**king Guns In America

Despite his renaissance as a gun-toting action hero, Liam Neeson has denounced gun control in the US in a blazing stream of invective.

Neeson, currently starring in ‘Taken 3’, was asked about the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, leading him to talk about the number of guns in the US.

“First off, my thoughts and prayers and my heart are with the deceased, and certainly with all of France, yesterday. I’ve got a lot of dear friends in Paris,” the 62-year-old actor told Gulf News, while promoting his new movie in Dubai.

“There’s too many [expletive] guns out there,” he continued.

“Especially in America. I think the population is like, 320 million? There’s over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America. I think it’s a [expletive] disgrace.

“Every week now we’re picking up a newspaper and seeing, ‘Yet another few kids have been killed in schools’.”

But when asked whether his films could encourage gun use, he was quick to deny any link between movies and real-life violence.

“I grew up watching cowboy movies, loved doing that [gun gesture] with my fingers, ‘Bang, bang, you’re dead!’” he said.

“I didn’t end up a killer. I think that’s something the power of cinema can be.

“A character like Bryan Mills going out with guns and taking revenge: it’s fantasy. It’s in the movies, you know?

“I think it can give people a great release from stresses in life and all the rest of it, you know what I mean?

“It doesn’t mean they’re all going to go out and go, ‘Yeah, let’s get a gun!’,” he added.

The third in the ‘Taken’ series has topped the US and UK box office charts.

But it’s not faring so well with critics, languishing with an 11% ‘fresh’ rating on reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
