London Film Festival 2014: Line-Up Features Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch Films

The programme for the 2014 BFI London Film Festival - the biggest movie event in the UK calendar - has been announced.

We’ll get straight to the films. First up is the Oscar-tipped ‘The Imitation game’, which opens the festival and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as legendary computer programmer Alan Turing.

Meanwhile the European premiere of WW2 drama ‘Fury’ is the festival finale. It stars Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf as grizzled tank drivers and is directed by David Ayers, who made ‘End Of Watch’.

Some more highlights include ‘Foxcatcher’, another film with serious awards buzz that sees Steve Carrell play an eccentric millionaire who takes an interest in two champion wrestlers, played by Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. Check out the disturbing trailer below.

Jason Reitman (‘Up In The Air’, ‘Juno’) is also bringing his latest to the festival. ‘Men, Women & Children’ is based on the novel by Chad Kultgen and has an amazing ensemble cast, including Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer and Ansel Elgort.

Another star-packed film is period drama ‘A Little Chaos’, directed by national treasure Alan Rickman and starring Kate Winslet as a landscape gardener employed by King Louis XIV to transform the gardens at Versailles.

There’s also a chance for UK film fans to see the already award-laden ‘Mr. Turner’, with Timothy Spall playing the legendary artist. The performance won him the Best Actor prize at Cannes.

Funnyman Jon Stewart goes serious with his documentary ‘Rosewater’ - about Maziar Bahari - the journalist who was detained for 188 days in Iran after reporting on the civil unrest. It’s already had rave reviews from Telluride.

Overall there are 245 fiction and documentary features being shown both in London and across the UK for the festival.

There’ll also be Q&As, director masterclasses, short film programmes and, most importantly, the chance to gawp at A-List celebs on the red carpet.

The BFI London Film festival runs from Wednesday 8 October to Sunday 19 October.
