Mark Millar on Marvel's Civil War: 'Any Other Studio Would Screw It Up'

Comic book writer Mark Millar has expressed his confidence in Marvel Studios’ ability to adapt his famous ‘Civil War’ event story in next year’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

Millar was talking to MTV to promote the latest adaptation of his work, Matthew Vaughn’s ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, when they asked if he had any concerns about the project.

"They’re a money machine, they’re amazing," he responded enthusiastically. "Whatever they do is gonna be a billion dollar movie and it’ll be great. You know as a fanboy I grew up, since I was 4 or 5 I planned to be Spider-Man. Even now I still think it’s possible!"

Millar then reinforced his admiration for the Marvel Cinematic Universe by claiming that any other Hollywood studio would probably screw it up - which 20th Century Fox might not be too pleased about given they’re the studio behind ‘Kingsman’.

"I couldn’t be more relaxed about it," he said. "Almost any other studio could screw it up. I’ll just show up on the night and enjoy the film."

Still, it’s good to know the story’s author has confidence, even though the actual storyline of his ‘Civil War’ comic will likely differ significantly from what we see on film, given the various Marvel superheroes who can and can’t appear for contractual reasons.

Millar certainly isn’t new to having his work adapted for the big screen. He was the man behind the comics that turned into James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie action film ‘Wanted’, not to mention Matthew Vaughn’s hugely popular precursor to ‘Kingsman’, the cult classic ‘Kick Ass’.

'Kingsman: The Secret Service' is out on 29 January. 'Captain America: Civil War' is set for 29 April 2016.
